History (cont 2)

A fine stalwart and Christian gentleman of the society at that time was Mr William Davies. He was prone to writing small poems of occasions and feelings at that time. Here one that was entitled “IM only a Lad “was recited by one of his sons, a six year old.

"Master Chairman and friends, I must say I`m glad

To meet with you tonight, though I`m only a lad

The benefits derived from this Tea Meeting they say

Will go towards building a new chapel and school some future day

I`m only a lad but I can have a small share

For I can help forward this work with my pennies and prayer

The little girls and boys are saving up their pennies, I hear

And they`ll have a big share in the new chapel, No Fear!

Our teachers learn us beautiful hymns and nice prayers

But I`m sorry to tell you they put us upstairs

But if they get plenty of money to build a new chapel you know

They`ll have rooms for little girls and boys down below"
